There have been several questions recently about the red buoy that appeared in the main channel earlier in the year.
It is simply a Port channel marker indicating the edge of the navigable channel and should be left to Port when entering the basin, and obviously to Starboard when leaving the basin.
Water to the seaward side of this buoy is likely to be too shallow for navigation for all but small craft with very shallow draft.
