Air Dock or Boat Lift Devices – Interim policy

The committee considered air docks or boat lifts at a meeting on 27 October 2010 and formally adopted the policy that approval for installation air docks or boat lifts would not be given for the foreseeable future.

Factors leading to this decision are:

  • The marina’s aged pontoon joining system of bolts into nylon ferrules is currently a matter for concern and is currently being monitored and repaired as necessary, in order to maintain pontoons in a safe and functional condition until complete replacement with new pontoons is possible.  The extra windage created by elevated vessels would likely increase the load on the finger to pontoon join and increase potential for failure.
  • Difficulties with a suitable location for the control box on common property
  • Limited access to shared electrical connection to power the compressor
  • Most berths in the marina are narrower than in other modern marinas and the overall width of air docks would usually exceed the maximum allowable width for most berths
  • Undesirable visual impact for other marina clients

This policy may be reviewed after the marina infrastructure is replaced with new components and electrical capacity is upgraded, though it is anticipated that this will be some way into the future.
